The Building of a Women's Longboarding Tour:
The tide has finally shifted in the right direction for women's longboarding. Thanks to Linda Benson, president of the Women's World Longboarding Championships, Inc. (WWLC) and Roxy, female longboarders now have a real tour to compete in with substantial purses and worldwide recognition.
The 2005 Women's World Longboarding Championships in Ocean Beach marked the first ever stand alone women's longboarding event that was planned for women by women. Previously, the contest was held in conjunction with other men's events such as the Rabbit Kekai International Longboard Classic at Boca Barranca river mouth (Costa Rica).
This year the tour has stepped it up even more. For the first time in history, two WWLC events have been sanctioned by the ASP and both have a great partner in Roxy. The Roxy Jam Biarritz Women's World Longboarding Championship was held in Biarritz, France this past July and will be the start of what is hoped to become a professional women's longboarding tour.
The Roxy Jam Cardiff, featuring the Linda Benson Women's World Longbaord Pro is the second ASP sanctioned event Roxy is hosting in 2006. The contest will be held on September 23-24th at Cardiff Reef in Cardiff-By-The-Sea, California and will welcome professional longboarders from all corners of the world including Australia, Hawaii, Japan, France, and the United Kingdom. This event will serve as the US regional championship, offer a $15,000 prize purse for the pro division, and act as a qualifier for Roxy Jam Biarritz, France in 2007. The Robert Kekai event in Costa Rica in June 2007 will also serve as a qualifier for Biarritz, France 2007. At this time no other women's longboard events are confirmed as tour qualifiers.

The Roxy Jam Cardiff Featuring Linda Benson Women's Longboard Pro will include an open pro division, as well as an amateur competition featuring the following divisions: Teenie Wahine, Menehune, Junior woman, senior women, and master.
In addition to competitive surfing, the Roxy Jam Cardiff will feature a fun-filled, family-oriented festival atmosphere designed to celebrate surfing in and out of the water, including a beach fair with local community vendors, special activities, art exhibitions, music, and much more! Roxy is also proud to announce that proceeds from the event will benefit the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy to help raise community awareness about urban run-off and to supplement the Conservancy's water quality testing program.
