The ASP Sanctioned Event, With a Purse of $15,000, Will Crown the First Women?s U.S., Longboarding Champion
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA ? (August 25, 2006) ? Roxy, in conjunction with The Women?s World Longboarding Championships (WWLC), will hold the first ever U.S. ASP sanctioned women?s longboarding competition, the Roxy Jam Cardiff Featuring the Linda Benson Women?s Longboard Pro. The event will be held September 23 and 24 at Cardiff Reef, Calif. Offering a purse of $15,000, the largest prize purse for a women?s longboard contest in the U.S., the competition will crown the U.S. longboarding champion and serve as the national qualifier for the World Women?s Longboarding Championships to be held June 2007 in Biarritz, France.
?The Roxy Jam Cardiff Featuring the Linda Benson Women?s Longboard Pro is a huge milestone for female longboarders who, until now, have received very little support from the pro surfing circuit. Thanks to the support of Roxy and the ASP, female longboarders finally have a real tour in which to compete,? said Linda Benson, President, WWLC.
In addition to the pro competition, the Roxy Jam Cardiff will also feature the Hansen Surfboards Longest Nose Riding Contest (pros only) with a $3,000 purse, five open amateur division contests (Teenie Wahinie, Menehune, Junior Women, Senior Women, and Masters), and a paddleboard race open to all. First place winners of each amateur division will receive a Surftech longboard and the winner of the paddleboard contest will receive a Surftech paddleboard.
The Roxy Jam Cardiff, sponsored by Paul Mitchell, Surftech and Hansen Surfboards, will benefit the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy to help raise
community awareness about urban run-off and supplement the Conservancy?s water quality testing program. Much more than just a surf competition, the event will include a fun-filled family-oriented fair featuring live music by the latin jazzy rockers, Diego?s Umbrella and an acoustic set by Rachel Cantu.

- Free surf lessons for kids under 17
- Free yoga classes open to all
- Arts and crafts activities for kids
- Art exhibit and silent-auction featuring well-known local surf artists
- An exclusive longboard raffle including shapers Robert August, Joel Tudor and Donald Takayama with proceeds going to the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy
- Beach clean-up on Sunday evening organized by Reef Check
- Pancake breakfast with the Encinitas Fire Department
- Food booths and much more
Registration for the pro and amateur competitions must be received by September 15. Entry fee for the Open Pro Women is $125.00.
